From street beggar to talented artist; a unique painting by a Cambodian friend of RICE:
SP is a 19 year old boy that suffers from a condition called Marfan syndrome which strongly affects the structure of his bones and eyes. Despite his condition, SP is a budding artist with a bright future. His works are filled with inspiration from his troubled life. Raised in Thmoobang district in the mountains close to the Thai-Cambodian border, he comes from a family of six. Due to the family's vulnerable economic situation, he was trafficked to Thailand at the age of 11 where he worked as a street beggar.
In 2005, he was repatriated from Thailand to Poipet and a few months later to Damnok Toek, a centre for children with disabilities in Phnom Penh. Once in the centre he attended public school and also discovered a passion for drawing and painting. He is currently taking classes at an art school in Phnom Penh to further develop his already great skills.
SP has painted a special piece for RICE and Eurekahedge. We thank you in advance for your support of this young man’s talent.
