Held on 27 May 2016, a turnout of 300 guests gathered for the 13th Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards ceremony to commemorate the 88 top performing Asian hedge funds of 2015 which saw familiar friends and new faces.
Coming out tops was Segantii Asia-Pacific Equity Multi-Strategy who secured awards in the three categories they were nominated in, including the coveted title of Best Asian Hedge Fund for the second year running. The fund was also named Best Asian Multi-Strategy Fund – the second consecutive time they’ve won this accolade & Best Asian Billion Dollar Hedge Fund.
Close behind with two wins were Akito Fund JPY, who clinched Best Japan Hedge Fund for the second time since 2015, and Most Consistent Asia-based Fund, followed by Tairen China Fund’s win of Best Greater China Hedge Fund and Best Asian Long/Short Equity Fund. Helios Strategic also kept their streak going with Best Indian Hedge Fund for the second consecutive year. Eurekahedge is excited to see several new winners joining the fold starting with Ton Poh Thailand Fund who won the newly minted Best ASEAN Fund award, Pooja Malik of Nipun Asia Total Return Fund as the Best Female Hedge Fund Manager, and welcoming QUAD Asia Absolvt Fund as the Best New Asian Hedge Fund.
Among other regional and strategic awards, congratulations goes out to APS Asia Pacific Long Short Fund (Best Singapore-based Hedge Fund), Pinpoint Multi-Strategy Fund (Best Asia ex-Japan Hedge Fund), KS Korea Credit Fund (Best Asian Fixed Income Fund), Credence Global (Best Asia-based CTA/Managed Futures Fund), Athos Asia Event Driven Fund (Best Asian Event Driven Fund), AE Capital Systematic FX Fund (Best Asia-based Global Macro Fund), and Everbright China Focus Fund (Best Asian Long Only Absolute Return Fund).
This year, Eurekahedge’s fund raising activities were conducted with charity partner the Bone Marrow Donor Programme; Singapore’s only register of volunteer bone marrow donors that has been providing that one chance of survival to hundreds of patients suffering from terminal blood-related diseases. A total of S$50,836 was raised for the Bone Marrow Donor Programme via a curated selection of auction items and experiences that were available that night and Eurekahedge is grateful for the encouraging response from the winning bids and raffle ticket purchases who have contributed in the effort to saving lives.
Eurekahedge is thankful for the constant support of the industry players who remain committed to the Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards either through sponsoring awards and tables, judging the selection for nominees and winners, or attending the event.
The Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards have had award categories across the board in regional and strategic mandates that not only reflect the industry’s performance but also highlight outstanding performers of the year. In 2015, the categories were revamped with new awards introduced to acknowledge performers that have yet to be recognised for their efforts.
Nominees for the Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards are selected through voting by an independent panel of judges, from a working list of funds reporting to the Eurekahedge databases. All Asian hedge funds listed with Eurekahedge, operating as at the end-April 2016, and have reported their latest performance and AUM numbers are eligible for nomination. A master file of all eligible funds for each of the award categories (according to their regional/strategic mandates) will be compiled and circulated among the judges to facilitate nomination for the awards (note: consequently, it is not unlikely that the same fund would be nominated for multiple awards).
Once the votes are collated and the list of nominees finalised, the winners are selected by the panel of judges, weighing in on both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the funds in question. The quantitative discussion, while mainly based on 2015 performance, also evaluates 1Q 2016 risk/return metrics, on grounds of consistency in fund performance. The selection of nominees and winners is entirely under the remit of the panel of judges, and the role of Eurekahedge in this endeavour is limited to supplying data and moderating the discussion.
The winners are selected by an independent panel of judges based on both quantitative data and qualitative knowledge of the funds listed in the Eurekahedge database. Our esteemed panel of judges have a combined total of 102 years investing in the hedge fund industry.

Paradise by Choo Meng Foo
"I was inspired by the extrordinary scene I saw in JiuZhaiGou, China. The lakes, the sky and the trees were taken from a scene in my imagination, except they stood before me. I was awed. At times, one could vaguely see a dragon - the auspicious animal in the Chinese zodiac, dwelling beneath the water.
This surreal landscape is made possible by digital technology, craft and patience. The birds are collections from friends who have pursued them for well over ten years. I would like to thank them, Chong Boon Leong, Tia Too Seng and Vincent Ng for their generousity, granting me free license to use them for my collection."
