The Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards 2010 was an outstanding success with over 300 hedge fund industry players from across the region recognising the top achievers for 2009 and 1Q2010. We were pleased to see so many new faces this year and the impressive turnout demonstrates the resilience of the industry. A total of 14 awards were presented to the best performing Asian hedge funds with Segantii Asia-Pacific Equity Multi-Strategy Fund taking the main plaudits, winning the highly coveted Best Asian Hedge Fund Award, in addition to the Best Asian Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund award. HT Asian Alpha Amoeba Fund also won top accolades, claiming the Best Asia ex-Japan Hedge Fund and the Best Asian Long/Short Equity Fund. The top regional performers were presented to Northwest China Opportunities Fund as the Best Greater China Hedge Fund; Prowess of Japan as the Best Japan Hedge Fund, winning it for the second year in a row; HSBC India Alpha Fund as the Best India Hedge Fund; and Riley Paterson Asian Opportunities Fund as the Best Local (Singapore) Hedge Fund. Rising star Serica Credit Balanced Fund won the Best New Asian Hedge Fund award. This year, the Special Achievement Award was presented to George Long for his outstanding 15-year contribution to the Asian hedge fund industry. His company, Long Investment Management, has the longest-running Asian hedge fund. This is the first time our esteemed panel of judges have presented the Special Achievement Award to an individual. Other big winners of the night were Macquarie Special Events Fund for the Best Asian Event Driven Fund; KC Asia Fund for the Best Asia-based Global Macro Fund; Regal Amazon Market Neutral Fund for the Best Asian Relative Value Fund; and CSL Active Long Only Commodity Programme for the Best Asia-based CTA/Managed Futures Fund. Eurekahedge would like to take this opportunity to thank all sponsors, participants, delegates and the judges involved in making this year’s event such an overwhelming success and we wish the very best to the industry for the next 12 months.

Nominees for the Eurekahedge Asian Hedge Fund Awards are selected through voting by an independent panel of judges, from a working list of funds reporting to the Eurekahedge databases. All Asian hedge funds listed with Eurekahedge and operating as at the end of March 2010 are eligible for nomination. A master file of all eligible funds for each of the award categories (according to their regional/strategic mandates) will be compiled and circulated among the judges to facilitate nomination for the awards (note: consequently, it is not unlikely that the same fund would be nominated for multiple awards). Once the votes are collated and the list of nominees finalised, the winners are selected by the panel of judges, weighing in on both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the funds in question. The quantitative discussion, while mainly based on 2009 performance, also evaluates 1Q2010 risk/return metrics, on grounds of consistency in fund performance. The selection of nominees and winners is entirely under the remit of the panel of judges, and the role of Eurekahedge in this endeavour is limited to supplying data and moderating the discussion. The winners are selected by an independent panel of judges based on both quantitative data and qualitative knowledge of the funds listed in the Eurekahedge database.
